Kingsport Ballet

Contemporary and/or Partnering classes. Receive pre-professional training with world-class performance opportunities. Mainstage performances and community outreach. Opportunity to receive training in pas de deux and learn high level classical variations.

Friday evening and Saturday company classes and rehearsals. Additional evening rehearsals may be added commensurate with roles being rehearsed for productions.

4 ballet technique classes* per week, depending on level, not counting Saturday company class. Students must be enrolled in BIV or higher, audition for company, and attend a minimum of four ballet classes per week* and have had a minimum of one year of pointe work.

Add Contemporary class for well-rounded dance training. Alicia has been placed in level BIIIB but is not able to attend 3 ballet classes per week. She may choose to be in BIIIR and attend class in the BIII level just on Mondays (or another convenient day) and add Contemporary class at the BIII level.

Starting at Level III, our dancers may choose the Recreational Track, for a lighter, more flexible schedule, or the Company Track, for a more dedicated schedule that allows dancers to hone their skills with pre-professional training.

Kingsport Ballet is proud to offer adult ballet and contemporary classes for all levels of dancers. Whether you’ve danced before or are new to the art form, our classes are suitable for any level of dance experience.

For those students wishing to dedicate themselves to ballet, or to work on a specific skill, we offer private lessons. If you are interested in receiving private lessons, please contact us using the button below and we will be in contact to schedule a time.

Our contemporary instructor, Raleigh Shelton, brings a fun twist to the contemporary experience. Being well-trained in additional forms of dance helps dancers become more aware of their body in movement and creates a more well-rounded dancer. Contemporary classes are offered for ages 7 and up.

Students who participate in the Kingsport Ballet Company are instilled with dedication and love for ballet. Being a part of the KB Company allows students to hone in on their passion and grow their abilities in dance, receiving instruction from our talented and extremely experienced Artistic Director and other Guest Teachers. Students in Ballet IV and up are eligible to join the Company. Company classes are held on Saturday mornings each week.

Ballet V and VI students attend five, 1.5-hour ballet classes per week including pointe and partnering. Students will be cast in KB productions; role will be determined at a formal audition. Students in Ballet IVA and higher are eligible to join Kingsport Ballet’s Company. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is required for Company membership. All Company members are required to attend a minimum of 2 weeks of Summer Intensive.

Ballet IIIR students are on the KB Recreational Track. Recreational Track students may take class any number of days per week. They will not be on pre-pointe or the Company Track. This allows an appreciation and enjoyment of the art of ballet with a lighter schedule commitment.

Ballet IIIB students attend three ballet classes per week and may begin pointe work. They are eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to be a well-rounded dancer.

Ballet IIIC students attend three ballet classes per week and may do pointe work. They are eligible to audition for the Nutcracker and may receive an invitation to be “Company Candidates”. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to be a well-rounded dancer.

Ballet IIIA students attend three ballet classes per week and will begin pre-pointe strengthening. They are eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to be a well-rounded dancer.

Ballet IIA and IIB students attend one or two ballet classes per week. Eligible to audition for the Nutcracker. An additional form of dance, such as contemporary, is recommended to support becoming a well-rounded dancer.

Ballet Prep is geared towards younger students ages 5 and 6 with the primary goal of introducing them to the foundation of ballet concepts. In Prep classes, they will learn about the different ballet positions, proper posture, and basic ballet movements that create the baseline for more complex and advanced movements as they grow in their ballet education. Ballet Prep students attend classes once per week. Students in Prep Ballet may take an additional form of dance - “Little Jazz” or “Little Contemporary”

Begin your child’s introduction to ballet in our Dance Movement program. Classes are created specifically for 3 to 4-year-olds with a safe, age-appropriate curriculum that will get them excited about dance! The goal of our dance movement classes it to introduce them to movement and dance concepts while keeping classes fun for the little ones! There are plenty of wonderful by-products of this program such as learning to work as a group, following directions and listening, learning about music and how to identify rhythm, tempo, melody and much, much more!

Prep I/II (ages 5 + 6), Wednesdays, 4:45 – 5:45 pm. Students have long commuted to Kingsport Ballet from an over 60-mile radius. With this expansion we will be bringing some of our offerings closer to you, our regional community!

Enrich your ballet training with Kingsport Ballet’s Summer Intensive. During our 3-week Summer Intensive, students are given the opportunity to hone their ballet and dance education. Master Instructors from across the United States and abroad come to lend their expertise in various disciplines - from ballet and pointe to jazz, contemporary, modern, partnering, yoga, and more.

Kingsport Ballet’s summer workshop program is a high-paced series of classes over three weeks in June. For the intensive, Kingsport Ballet welcomes professional master teachers from around the country who deliver instruction in ballet, pointe and variations, partnering, modern and contemporary, jazz, yoga, nutrition, and much more! Attend for 1, 2, or all 3 weeks, full or half days are available. We provide exciting, educational, and unique instruction to all levels. Company members are required to attend at least two weeks of Summer Intensive. The 2026 Summer Intensive will be held from June 8–26, 2026.

Students ages 3, 4, 5, and 6 years old are invited to join us for Angelina Ballerina summer camp! Campers will be introduced to movement with music and the beginning foundations of ballet in a fun and exciting way!
