Marble City School of Dance, nestled in Rutland, Vermont, builds upon a rich legacy of dance education. Emerging as the newest chapter, the studio honors 25 years of the Adams School of Dance and 14 years of the Vermont Center for Dance Education. Co-directors Zoë Marr-Hilliard and Alycia Hollister, both deeply connected to these predecessor institutions, lead a dedicated faculty including Stefania Nardi, Lauren Chirico, Tegan Lewis-Waite, Katye Robare Munger, and Twyla Marr. Zoë, a student of Stefania Nardi for three decades, and Alycia, both former faculty of VCDE, bring extensive experience and a passion for fostering artistic expression. They are committed to a disciplined, detailed, and caring approach. Marble City School of Dance offers a comprehensive curriculum for all ages, fostering technique, creativity, and a love for dance in a safe, supportive, and inclusive atmosphere. Styles include foundational and advanced Ballet (enhanced by ABT® certification and Vaganova instruction), Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, and Musical Theater Jazz, blending theatrical performance with energetic movements. Young dancers can explore Pre-Ballet and Intro to Modern & Jazz. The studio also supports adult programs through the Marble Valley Dance Collective. Marble City School of Dance welcomes new students with a complimentary trial class and waives traditional registration fees, requiring a 30% deposit on the first month's tuition to ensure accessibility.

Composition

T his class introduces the fundamentals of choreography, including space, time, dynamics, and structure. Through improvisation, guided exercises, and collaborations, students will develop knowledge, gain experience in the craft of choreography, and learn how to create original dance pieces.

Contemporary

Contemporary classes blend elements of modern, ballet, and jazz to explore fluidity, expression, and innovative movement. Dancers will work on technique, improvisation, and storytelling through dance, developing strength, flexibility, and artistry.

Stylized Jazz

This class blends strong jazz technique with dynamic, stylized movement - influenced by commercial and contemporary jazz dance. Dancers will focus on musicality, precision, and performance quality while exploring diverse styles and choreography.

Musical Theater Jazz

Get ready to dazzle the stage in our Musical Theater Jazz class! This class has the energy of jazz with the theatrical storytelling of musical theater. We will focus on performance skills, incorporating Broadway-style movements and music, as well as a focus on connecting with the audience. Come build confidence and refine technique in a fun and supportive environment.

Intro to Modern & Jazz

This class introduces young dancers to the basics of modern and jazz dance. Through playful movement, simple steps, and creative games, dancers develop coordination, rhythm, and confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

Modern

Modern classes explore modern dance through a mix of technique, floor work, and improvisation. Dancers will develop strength, body awareness, and creative expression while expanding their movement skills.

Tap

Tap classes focus on the rhythms, sounds, and techniques of tap dance. Students will build their sense of rhythm and timing through combinations featuring classic tap steps.

Pointe

Pointe classes focus on building the strength, alignment, and control necessary for safe and expressive pointe work. Dancers will develop and strengthen the feet, ankles, and core through barre and center exercises specifically tailored for pointe technique.

Pre-Pointe

Pre-Pointe prepares dancers for the transition to pointe work by focusing on strength, alignment, balance, and proper ballet technique. Dancers will work in flat shoes to build a strong foundation. When the instructor feels the class is ready, students will transition to pointe.

Ballet

Ballet classes will explore a variety of classical ballet styles, including ABT and Vaganova. Students will build strong technique, musicality, and artistry through barre work, center combinations, and across-the-floor exercises.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet classes build coordination, musicality, and basic ballet movement through creative play, simple exercises, and storytelling. Young dancers will develop body awareness, balance, and confidence in a joyful and nurturing environment.
