About Lasley Centre for the Performing Arts

The Lasley Centre for the Performing Arts, located in Warrenton, Virginia, is a vibrant hub for dance education, nurturing aspiring dancers of all ages and skill levels from Fauquier County and beyond. The Centre offers a comprehensive curriculum designed for artistic growth, encompassing foundational and advanced training across a wide spectrum of disciplines. Students can immerse themselves in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Modern, and Tap, with specialized Acro for Dance classes blending acrobatic skill with theatrical movement. The curriculum also includes Hip Hop, Musical Theater, and Ballroom dance styles. The Lasley Centre is dedicated to fostering both technical proficiency and a deep appreciation for the performing arts in a supportive environment. Led by Executive Director Kalie Lasley, the esteemed faculty includes Ballet Master Mark Rubin, Carrie Rodriguez, Jennifer Holt, Debra Denson, Amy Lifson-Cosby, Constance O’Mara, and Courtney Ritter, who also guides younger students in Pre-Primary classes. Specialized programs include Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) and intensive Summer Intensives (June 23rd - August 8th) featuring guest instructors from the American Ballet Theatre. Younger dancers can enjoy themed Summer Camps like 'Prince & Princess' and 'Fairies & Superheroes.' The Centre encourages prospective students to experience their quality of instruction through a free trial class, highlighting a commitment to 'Dance Instruction Excellence'.

Offering dance classes in many genres, the Lasley Centre is convenient to Prince William County (Bristow, Haymarket, Gainesville, Manassas, and Nokesville areas) and Fauquier County (Warrenton, Bealeton, Marshall, and Remington areas). We also have students who come from Culpeper and surrounding areas.

Modern IV

Our modern dance classes are based on the Graham technique. Students will learn the fundamentals of classical American modern dance and explore the expression and freedom of movement the technique allows. Classes include traditional Graham floor work, movements across the floor, and choreography.

Modern III

Modern III implements elements of all Ballet and Acro for Dance levels. Our modern dance classes are based on the Graham technique. Students will learn the fundamentals of classical American modern dance and explore the expression and freedom of movement the technique allows. Classes include traditional Graham floor work, movements across the floor, and choreography.

Modern II

Modern II begins to implement elements of Ballet II – IV and elements of Acro for Dance. Our modern dance classes are based on the Graham technique. Jazz Advanced

Jazz Beginning

Dancers will use their technique foundation to dance to Pop, Hip Hop, and R&B music as well as Broadway show tunes. Classes will begin with proper warm-up and continue with isolation, balance, flexibility stretches. Dancers will become comfortable expressing movement through freestyle and choreography.

Contemporary Ballet Dance Instruction

Offering dance classes in many genres, the Lasley Centre is convenient to Prince William County and Fauquier County areas.

Primary C Ballet

Primary C Ballet is the first exam prep class for the Primary levels. It expands their previous learning and classroom structure as they prepare for their National Training Exams. Exams are approached as a fun and exciting event in their training, much like any other performance. Students begin to learn personal responsibility for their own supplies (i.e. shoes, tights, hair supplies, etc.) and learn to apply what they are learning individually both in class and at home. At this level, children will be given the opportunity to participate in national exams.

Primary B Ballet

Primary B Ballet continues to build on the skills previously mastered and increases the movement vocabulary. Spacial and directional awareness increases, as does attention span and logical thinking. Students gain confidence and an understanding of the dynamics of movement quality. Instruction continues to be developmentally appropriate and fun-filled, with an attention on movement, musicality, expression, and body awareness. Emphasis is placed on developing a good foundation with basic and correct technique, good communication, cognitive thinking, and instilling a love for dance.

Primary A Ballet

Primary Ballet builds on creative instruction utilizing a child’s natural curiosity in discovering movement qualities and dynamics. Introducing dance in a developmentally appropriate manner filled with fun, and effecting muscular engagement and development. School aged girls and boys continue working on movement, musicality, expression, and body awareness. Several composers and genres of music are introduced. Emphasis is placed on developing a good foundation with basic and correct technique, increasing attention span, good communication, cognitive thinking, and instilling a love for dance.

Pre-Primary Ballet

Pre-Primary Ballet utilizes creative instruction in discovering movement qualities and dynamics while introducing dance in a fun and developmentally appropriate manner, effecting muscular engagement and development. Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students’ technique by focusing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels.

Adult / Teen Ballet

For beginning adults, and transfers from other schools (some ability, but need foundation – slower pace). Adult classes offer a selection of dance genres, to adults who wish to continue or return to their dance education. Classes are designed to challenge each student at their individual level, increase or regain strength, flexibility, coordination, while fulfilling artistic development, all in a welcoming environment. Performance opportunities are available for our adult students who wish to participate.

Ballet IV + V – Pointe & Variations

Ballet IV + V – Pointe & Variations is an advanced class. Ballet IV + V – Pointe & Variations students will learn repertoire from major classical and contemporary works.

Ballet V

All of the vocabulary from the previous levels are included with the addition of Level 5 appropriate exercises. YAGP is available to qualifying students.

Ballet IV

All of the vocabulary from the previous levels are included with the addition of Level 4 appropriate exercises. Partnering and Variations/Repetoire are added at this level. YAGP is available to qualifying students.

Ballet III – Pointe & Variations

Ballet III – Pointe & Variations students learn how to work correctly and safely in pointe shoes, with a focus on proper alignment of the foot and ankle. Students will develop the foot and ankle strength necessary for more advanced pointe work. Students are also taught how to properly sew and care for their pointe shoes.

Ballet III

All of the vocabulary from the previous levels are included with the addition of Level 3 appropriate exercises. With the addition of pointe work for students with a minimum age of 11 and who have achieved the strength, and placement necessary for pointe work. Character, Modern and Jazz are strongly recommended at this level. YAGP is available to qualifying students.

Ballet II

All of the vocabulary from the previous levels are included with the addition of Level 2 appropriate exercises.

Ballet I

All of the vocabulary from the previous levels are included with the addition of Level 1 appropriate exercises. As in all of our classes, the curriculum is designed to be fun, challenging, and with the intent of developing a strong, technically sound dancer.
