Ballet Program

Adult and Teen Ballet

A class for students to learn ballet terminology and steps. This class follows the format of a traditional ballet class. It includes a warm-up, ballet steps at the barre, center movement, and simple choreography. Classes meet weekly on the days assigned. Classes are billed monthly at the tuition listed. Multi-class discounts available if you enroll in two or more classes. Discount will be applied following registration.

Vision Dance Theatre

Invitation only. For intermediate and advanced dancers that are looking to enhance their performance opportunities and gain community service experience by participating in community outreach programs and performances.

Pointe (Intermediate, Advanced)

Placement by audition only and at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

Conservatory Division

Our Conservatory Division is for intermediate and advanced dancers who demonstrate proficiency in classical ballet discipline and technique and are committed to ongoing personal and professional development. Students will attend multiple classes per week with participation in VAA student council, community outreach programs & performances.

Ballet 3 (ages 9-10 or by invitation)

Ballet 2 (ages 7-8)

Class placement by experience and ability. Students are evaluated and must demonstrate the skill requirements of previous levels.

Ballet 1 (ages 5 - 7)

Students are taught fundamental ballet technique and learn the discipline necessary for studying classical ballet.

Academy Division classes

The Academy Division instills discipline & builds a firm foundation of movement through the systematic teachings of Vaganova, anatomy & kinesiology. Academy Division is open to students ages 5-9. The Academy Division classes incorporates strength, confidence, and progression. The fundamentals of ballet are introduced at an appropriate age level with emphasis on posture, body awareness, and placement.

Open Division classes

Our Open Division classes are a great place to begin the exploration and education of dance. Our Open Division classes are geared for young learners (ages 3-7) and include pre-ballet, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and other movement forms. Classes include basic instruction, technique, and choreography culminating in an end-of-term performance (recital).

Ballet Program

Students of Valley Academy for the Arts are trained in the extended Vaganova* Method of Classical Ballet. The Vaganova method is a ballet technique and training system that focuses on internalizing muscle memory, emphasizes artistry and expression, and supporting injury-free training through advanced knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology and developmental movement of children, thereby maximizing strength, flexibility and longevity. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn excellent, proper technique and that dance is introduced in a meaningful and engaging setting that will prepare children for what life brings their way.

Open Children’s Division – Ballet , Hip-Hop, Jazz

Valley Academy for the Arts’ Open Division offers dance instruction in a variety of dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop. These classes provide an opportunity for your child to enjoy movement and exercise, to gain socialization skills, and to learn how to dance. With shorter class times and terms, these classes give your child a chance to gain beginning skills in dance areas they may decide to pursue in greater depth as they grow older. Ages 3-12, dance appreciation classes with basic instruction, technique, and choreographed with routine and performance in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and Irish dance classes available, for beginning students.

Formal ballet class for students that are seriously focusing on ballet technique. This class follows the format of a traditional ballet class. It includes a warm-up, ballet steps at the barre, center movement, and traditional choreography. Placement classes require the instructor's approval for enrollment.
