Classes

Dance Abilities Classes

Individual classes designed for young students and teen/adults students with disabilities and special needs. Students will discover various musical genres, learn basic dance steps, learn choreography, explore rhythm, sing and participate in movement games to encourage social development, physical fitness and gross motor development. Through simple patterns, sequencing and repetition, students will gain balance, express emotion, and gain muscle control, all while having fun and making new friends. Dance encourages imagination, creativity, confidence and self-esteem in a fun and musical driven atmosphere.

SEDC Homeschool Classes

These classes are a great chance for those who are on the homeschool schedule to come in and interact with other kids who are learning from home as well. If you are a homeschooler, you do not have to take these classes and you can participate in our regular classes, this is simply an additional offer.

Tumble Flex

This class will work on tumble skills and flexibility. Progressions will be given so all students will learn and grow.

Tumble Dance Arts

This is a new class that will fuse tumbling skills and dance technique. This class will include partnering, floor work, strength, and artistry.

Tap

All tap classes will work on rhythm and musicality. Each age group will learn traditional, and rhythm tap that will focus on progressions for safety and success.

Pointe

This class is designed for students with previous and continuing training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Approval for pointe shoes is required.

Pre-Pointe

By teacher approval and invite only. Pre-pointe is used to strengthen the ankles and placement for an easier transition to pointe. Pointe work requires an immense amount of foot and ankle strength in addition to placement of body weight. Pointe shoes have a much smaller surface area to balance on; this area is called the box of your pointe shoe. Without proper training and strength, it is quite difficult to feel secure and comfortable once up on your shoes. Pre-pointe revolves around the basis of balance and strength. These goals are reinforced through the use of many releves, balance exercises, and steps that are commonly used on pointe, such as echappe and bourrée. Pre-pointe is a very important stepping stone in a dancers' education when thinking of pursuing pointe. This class ensures the proper alignment of strength that is so valuable when up on pointe.

PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique)

Certified instructors, Miss Ramona and Miss Jules will lead classes in this innovative body conditioning and strengthening class. Specific exercises are used to support weight placement, alignment, and posture. A small and large exercise ball is needed.

Musical Theater

This class will use music from favorite musicals, showcase dances, and acting, through the words, music, movement, and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.

Lyrical

An emphasis is placed on grace, fluidity, musicality, and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement. This style combines elements of ballet and jazz to create storytelling and expression.

Jazz

Our jazz classes enrich and extend students' technical skills through center and progression work.

Improvisation

Dance improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating movement. Development of improvised movement material is facilitated through a variety of creative explorations, including levels, shapes, and dynamics. This class will improve each dancer's ability to connect their training to their own interpretation and artistry.

Hip Hop

Our dynamic hip hop classes provide students with the latest, cutting-edge, hip-hop choreography.

Dance Fundamentals

This class dives into the fundamentals of turning and technical sequencing of moves along with combining turns and leap. Leaps and turns focus on proper technique in pirouettes, leaps, jumps, battements, flexibility, extensions, and more.

Dance Conditioning

This class is a combination of deep stretching and body conditioning. Each class will focus on endurance, arms, abdominal, and leg exercises to strengthen the entire body. Strong muscles are vital for protecting the body and improving dance skills. Healthy muscles are important for safety and to let the dancers move more freely and keep the body strong. This class may incorporate therabands, tennis balls, stretch bands, ankle weights, yoga blocks, turning boards, and more.

Choreography Class

Coming Fall of 2024!! What to learn the ins and outs of choreography? This class is for ages 11 and up. More information coming soon.

Convention Combo

If your dancer loves learning up-to-date choreography, they will love this class. These classes will be taught by Miss Ramona and Miss Kenzie who have traveled to conventions all over the upstate NY area. These combinations will get your dancer excited and growing by offering choreography by leading professionals. All choreography is credited to the teacher and acceptable to teach. Styles in contemporary, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theater, tap, ballet and more.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a genre that includes fluidity, versatility and freedom of expression. This style includes movement from modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Classes will include warm up and progressions.

Guest Choreography

Studio East Dance Company will offer guest choreography for some classes, solos, duets and trios. These dances selected for this work will be taught choreography in the summer and fall or 2025.

Optional classes for the Company Team, ages 12+ years. These optional classes offer a broad range of dance disciplines and advanced techniques.

This hip-hop class is an explosive, funky dance style that combines memory, coordination, rhythm, and loads of energetic fun.

Preteen/Young Teen Jazz

Dancers will continue learning Jazz terminology, ranging from isolations, to a variety of jumps and turns. This class consists of a warm up, conditioning exercises in order to increase flexibility and strength, and choreography. This class structure may change during the summer sessions in order to be more focused on developing and refining new and old skills.

Preteen/Young Teen Tap

This class will include American Tap Dance history, a standard tap dance warm up, technique drills, and choreography. Students will build on technique that has been previously learned and will develop a deeper understanding for how skills stack together to make particular combinations and rhythms. Tap dance does take practice in order to gain fluidity, as well as develop the required muscle memory. Our staff is dedicated to working with students and making sure that everyone feels comfortable in the skills and steps they are being asked to do.

Preteen/Young Teen Lyrical/Ballet

This class focuses on control and fluidity of movement. The main foundation for this style is in ballet, and uses ballet technique and terminology. Dancers will develop musicality, advance their performance skills, and solidify their ballet and jazz technique.

Preps 2 Hip-Hop

This hip-hop class is an explosive, funky dance style that combines memory, coordination, rhythm, and loads of energetic fun.

Preps 2 Ballet

This class is focused on graceful, precise steps, strong core and posture, and will develop discipline and coordination. Barre work and center floor work will be taught along with terminology.

Preps 2 Jazz

Hip-Hop and Tumble

This combo class is for students that are always showing off their dance moves and love to flip around. It combines the basics of hip-hop and tumbling skills with age-appropriate movement and music.

Petite Combo Class Tap, Ballet, and Jazz

This class is built on movements already learned in Tots 1 and Tots 2 but also appropriate for the first-time dancer. At this level, students will learn coordination with more challenging tap and ballet skills, through imagination activities across the floor while building balance and confidence. Dancers will enjoy learning ballet and tap terminology as well as the dance moves and express their individuality. Pre-Jazz is an introduction to jazz where students will experience a class that will focus on flexibility, isolations, basic jazz movement and terminology to upbeat and age appropriate music.

Tumble

This is a fun class that introduces students to basic tumbling fundamentals. This includes forwards and backwards rolls, bridges, cartwheels and variations, and more. Students will work on strength and body awareness, all while working on solid foundations of beginner skills in a safe and supportive way.

Tots 1 and 2 Tumble

This class is for ages 3-6 that are learning the basic acro positions and more. This includes forwards and backwards rolls, bridges, cartwheels and variations, and more. Students will work on strength and body awareness, all while working on solid foundations of beginner skills in a safe and supportive way.

Tots 1 and 2 Combo Class Tap and Ballet

This class will focus on the basics of tap and ballet, while teaching young students about technique and discipline to build on their foundation. This class will give students that are older a chance to be role models and work on strengthening their technique.

Tots 2 - Combo Class Tap and Ballet

Our tots 2 class consists of tap and ballet. This class is built on basic movements, already learned in Tots 1 but also appropriate for the first-time dancer. At this level, students will learn coordination with more challenging tap and ballet skills, through imagination activities across the floor while building balance and confidence. Dancers will enjoy learning ballet and tap terminology as well as the dance moves and express their individuality.

Tots 1 - Combo Class Tap and Ballet

This class is perfect for ages 3 + 4. Tots 1 combo class is comprised of tap and ballet. This class will be focused on the foundation for correct, safe, and successful dancing in years to follow. Students will learn the basic steps and terminology in ballet and tap, along with the introduction of more skills and techniques. Instructors will foster creativity and imagination in class through movement and imaginary games.

Dance With Me

Dance with Me is a 30-minute creative movement class suitable for your young dancer. Parents/caregivers will participate actively in the class as children learn basic dance steps, movement, and terminology, through songs, stories, and play. Props will be used for interactive play.
