Founded in 2019 by Mackenzie Counterman, the studio offers a comprehensive dance education for students aged 2 to 18, catering to both beginner and advanced levels. Mackenzie, a seasoned dancer with 17 years of training including contortion, leads instruction, drawing on her extensive experience and education from prestigious institutions like Point Park University and the University of the Arts. The Dance Loft fosters a high-energy, fun, and supportive environment, emphasizing confidence-building, lifelong friendships, and physical and mental strength. Students can explore a diverse curriculum including foundational Ballet, expressive Contemporary dance, energetic Hip Hop, rhythmic Tap, and passionate Jazz. Beyond studio classes, The Dance Loft provides numerous performance opportunities in local events, parades, and festivals. The studio's Performance Group has had the honor of gracing major arenas such as the Bryce Jordan Center and PPG Paints Arena. The Dance Loft also boasts a strong connection to professional sports, with annual collaborations like Dance Day at PNC Park with the Pittsburgh Pirates, which has provided significant scholarships to aspiring dancers. Adult Ballet

This adult ballet class is perfect for beginners of any age who have never taken dance before or who have taken dance in the past and want to incorporate it back into their lives. This class is a unique way to get your exercise in for the day and tone up the body!

Self Choreography

Although all levels will participate in various improv exercises throughout the year, this class is only offered to our Elite Level dancers. In self-choreography, dancers will be given tasks to create their own work at home and showcase it in front of the class. As a class project, dancers will have to teach their own work to the class to begin learning how to instruct and verbally explain their choreography.

Tumbling

This class focuses solely on acrobatic movement and can range from handstands to handsprings and from chin stands to extreme flexibility and bending of the body.

Hip-Hop

Combining elements of jazz funk, popping, locking, and breaking, this style is typically performed to high-energy music with a definitive beat.

Tap

This style of dance utilizes metal taps attached to the toe and heel of the shoe which strike the floor in a variety of combinations to create sound along with the interpretive movement of the upper body.

Jazz

Typically set to upbeat music, this class combines classical jazz, commercial jazz, and jazz funk elements, along with the use of isolation to develop precision of movement.

Contemporary

This genre of dance is a newer style that has become a more dominant genre of dance across the world. This style of dance has technical aspects and includes floor work, changes in rhythm and speed, strong use of emotion and is typically used with either slower, meaningful, or impactful songs.

Pointe

Dancers that are highly proficient in ballet will progress to pointe shoes. The dancer must have a strong foundation prior to beginning pointe to avoid sustaining an injury. Eligibility for this class is at the discretion of the director.

Ballet

The foundation of dance in which elements can be found in all styles. Ballet focuses on the more intricate movement and technical aspect of the art.
