About Dance Department

Dance Department, located in Irmo, South Carolina, has been a cornerstone of dance education since its establishment in 1994 by Lauren Metts. As a premier studio, Dance Department is dedicated to excellence in training, customer service, and organization, fostering confidence, poise, and lasting friendships through the art of dance for students of all ages. The studio offers instruction in a variety of genuine dance styles, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Acrobatics. Classes are structured to cater to different age groups, from 3 & 4 Year Olds in preschool combination classes to 2nd - 12th Graders. Instruction is delivered by well-trained dancers with degrees in education, ensuring high standards of technical training and a supportive learning environment. The faculty includes Tap Director Becca Turcotte and Ballet Director Katie Smoak, all committed to ongoing professional development. Many former students have achieved significant success, performing professionally and on college dance teams. Recreational classes run from September through May, culminating in end-of-year performances at the Koger Center for the Arts. Dance Department utilizes the BAND app to keep parents informed and encourages families to explore the UPDATES page for crucial information regarding Summer Camps and the upcoming 2025-26 schedule. Lauren Metts' extensive experience, including coaching the Irmo High School dance team to numerous championships and founding the Dutch Fork High School Dazzler Dance Team, contributes to the studio's legacy of achievement.
