About Dance Elite
Dance Elite, located in the vibrant community of Morristown, Tennessee, is a premier dance studio dedicated to fostering a passion for movement in students of all ages. Led by a passionate mother-daughter team, Penny Solomon (business and operations manager) and Marley Whitmer (artistic director and instructor), Dance Elite offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to inspire and develop dancers. Marley, an accomplished instructor, leads advanced classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, and Acro, and coaches Dance Elite’s highly successful Competition Teams. Aspiring dancers aged 6-19 are invited to audition for the Elite Company, Elite Ensemble, and Petite Elite Company for the 2026/2027 competition season, with a minimum of one year of Ballet required for Elite Company and Ensemble eligibility. The studio offers a diverse range of styles including foundational Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, alongside Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Acrobatic classes, Latin dances like Salsa and Bachata, high-energy Zumba, and various Ballroom options. Dance Elite emphasizes a strong technical foundation within a disciplined and respectful environment, with specific dress codes to ensure proper technique and safety. The studio operates on a 39-week dance season, culminating in an annual Spring Concert. Registration for the Summer 2026 program (June 15th - July 24th) and the 2026/2027 season (starting August 3rd) opens on April 1st. Classes
Ballet, Jazz, and Rehearsal
Petite Elite Company dancers must be enrolled in at least one Ballet class, one Jazz class, and the Rehearsal class for their routine. These classes are crucial for their participation.
Ballet, Lyrical/Contemporary, Jazz, Elite Conditioning, Competition Technique, and Rehearsal
Elite Company dancers must be enrolled in at least one Ballet class, one Lyrical/Contemporary class, one Jazz class, two Elite Conditioning classes, the Competition Technique class, and the Rehearsal class for their routine. Some classes also have prerequisite classes, such as lyrical, which requires ballet registration and/or training to register.
Competition Technique
This class focuses on the specific techniques required for competition dance, building skills necessary for various genres.
Competition Rehearsal
Dancers will learn and rehearse group choreography in this class. This is essential for preparing competition routines.
Tap Character
Tap Character must portray a recognizable character and use tap technique and steps. This genre blends performance with tap dancing.

Musical Theatre
This class combines ballet, contemporary, and jazz technique with emotive acting skills. Music from stage musicals and movies will be used to create combinations that tell a story. All students ages 13+ are eligible for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet/Jazz Combo
This class is a beginner class for young aspiring dancers ages 4-5. Students can experience the grace of ballet and the sassy spirit of Jazz. Half of the class is dedicated to ballet; the other half is Jazz. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet/Tumbling Combo
This class is a beginner class for young aspiring dancers and gymnasts ages 4-5. Students can experience the grace of ballet and the energetic fun of tumbling. Half of the class is dedicated to ballet; the other half is tumbling. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet/Tap Combo
This is a beginner class for young aspiring dancers ages 4-5. Students can experience the grace of ballet and the exhilarating combinations of tap all within a single class. Half of the class is dedicated to ballet; the other half is Tap. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Acro Progressions
This class is an advanced level dance acrobatics class that focuses on acrobatics that are stylized for dance. The movement is elongated and slowed down to produce elegant and graceful acrobatic skills used in choreography. These skills require strength and flexibility; conditioning and stretching will be emphasized. A solid Ballet foundation and advanced flexibility are essential. Concurrent enrollment in Ballet is required, and mastery of all basic tumbling skills is required to receive an invitation to this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Acro 2
This class is a continuation of Acro 1, and requires permission of the instructor to register. Strength and flexibility acquisition continue to be emphasized and the class has a high focus on conditioning and stretching necessary for intermediate-level acro skills. Concurrent enrollment in Ballet is required. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Acro 1
This class focuses on acrobatics that may be commonly taught in tumbling and cheerleading, but are stylized for dance. The movement is elongated and slowed down to produce elegant and graceful tumbling skills used in choreography. These skills require strength and flexibility; conditioning and stretching will be emphasized. All students age 8+ are eligible for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Acro Jazz
This class is designed for ages 7+ and is for dancers who have completed one year of Jazz 1, or Acro 1, or are at least age 7 by August 1 st and are interested in Jazz and Dance Acrobatics. Dancers will learn basic Jazz movements including single and double Jazz pirouettes, early Jazz leaps, across-the-floor step combinations, and Jazz choreography, plus basic dance acrobatic movements including an emphasis on increasing strength and flexibility, all three splits, cartwheels, bridges, limbers, kick-overs and transitional movement to incorporate Acrobatics into Jazz choreography. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Jazz Level 5 (ages 16+)
This is an ultra-advanced Jazz class that will be a continuation of, and an increasing level-of-difficulty beyond, the Jazz 4 syllabus. Dancers must be pre-approved for this class and have had extensive Jazz training. Expect quad+ turns, hybrid turns, advanced turn combinations, advanced Jazz styling of movement, big leaps and leap combinations, acrobatics, and much more! This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Jazz Level 4 (ages 14+)
This class is an advanced jazz class for ages 14+ that focuses strongly on jazz technique. Turns and leaps are emphasized and lengthy combinations and choreography are practiced. This class moves at a fast pace appropriate for the age level. Previous jazz training and permission of the instructor are required to register for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Jazz Level 3 (ages 12+)
This class is a high-intermediate jazz class that focuses strongly on jazz technique. Turns, stylized movement, and leaps are emphasized and combinations set to popular contemporary music are practiced. Previous jazz training and permission of the instructor are required to register for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Jazz Level 2 (ages 10+)
This class is a beginner through intermediate jazz class that focuses strongly on jazz technique. Turns and leaps are emphasized and lengthy combinations set to popular contemporary music are practiced. All students ages 10+ are eligible for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Jazz Level 1 (age 6+)
This high energy class lets your little dancers get their groove on and learn stylized jazz moves to up-beat and popular music. Dancers in this class will perform high kicks, leaps, turns and many more moves at a fast pace. This class is perfect for all dancers, and pairs wonderfully with Ballet Levels 1 and 2. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Tap Level 2
This class is an intermediate-advanced tap class that focuses on incorporating tap basics with stylized combinations. Students are eligible for this class when they have mastered the Tap 1 syllabus or are placed in this level by an instructor.
Tap Level 1
This class concentrates on the art of making music with your feet. Tap dancing involves precise movements of the feet and body to make rhythmic combinations you can hear. This class is fun and high energy and is great place for your 6-10-year-old dancer to begin focusing on the art of tap dancing. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Hip Hop 3
This is an advanced level class for dancers who are age 13+ with several years of previous Hip Hop training. Students must have the permission of the instructor to register for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Hip Hop 2
This is a fun and fast-paced class that focuses on unique hip hop styles of dance. Popular hip hop music will be used in this class and students will learn precise and intricate combinations. Previous hip hop experience is not required, but students must be ages 12+ to register for this class or have permission of the instructor. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Hip Hop 1
This class is a beginner through intermediate level hip hop class that pushes students to explore several different styles and techniques of hip hop. Students will focus on increasingly difficult hip hop choreography and skills. All students are eligible for this class who are in the age range 6-11. No previous experience or training is required. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Lyrical/Contemporary 3
This is an advanced class for dancers possessing superior Ballet technique and several years of Lyrical/Contemporary training. Concurrent enrollment in Ballet and the permission of the instructor is required. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Lyrical/Contemporary 2
This class is for the serious dancer who is talented in Ballet and/or Jazz and wants to explore an expressive, emotive combination of the two styles. Lyrical and Contemporary dance utilize Ballet technique while incorporating floor-work, emotive abilities, and stylized movement. Students must have 2+ years of previous Ballet training and be concurrently enrolled in Ballet to be eligible for this class. Permission of the instructor is required to register. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Lyrical/Contemporary 1
This class is for young dancers who love the beauty and precision of Ballet and the expressive, emotion of lyrical and contemporary dance. Students must be concurrently enrolled in Ballet to take this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Pointe 2 (age 11+)
This class is for the ballet student who has mastered the basics of pointe and is ready to further develop her skills and master pointe choreography and exercises. Girls will be selected for this class based on their performance in the Pointe 1 or by private assessment by the instructor. Dancers must be concurrently enrolled in a Ballet class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Pointe 1 (age 11+)
Pointe is an advanced form of ballet in which girls wear specifically designed shoes enabling them to dance fully upright on their toes. Girls must be sufficiently strong in both body and technique to participate in this class. Girls will learn the early basics of pointe and practice complex barre routines. Students will be chosen for Pointe 1 by the instructor. Dancers must be concurrently enrolled in a Ballet class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet Level 6 and Level 7 (ages 14+)
These classes are for the serious dancer who possesses the intrinsic motivation to become an accomplished dancer of any genre. Core strength, feet and ankle strength, and advanced technique and choreography will be the primary focuses of this class. Students must be evaluated for placement in these classes. These classes do participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet Level 5 (ages 12+)
This class is a beginner-intermediate Ballet class that focuses on Ballet fundamentals for students age 12+ who are able to learn and apply corrections more quickly than their younger counterparts. Beginning students and students with 1-2 years of previous instruction are eligible for this class if they are in the age range of 12+, or have been placed in this class by an instructor.
Ballet Level 4 (ages 12+)
This class is a continuation of Ballet instruction for the intermediate-advanced Ballet student age 12+ that has been attending Ballet classes for 2+ years, or has been placed in this class by an instructor.
Ballet Level 3 (ages 10+)
This class is a beginning to intermediate level class dedicated to Ballet basics including barre exercises, exercises in center, allegro and adagio. This class is for the age 10+ ballerina who has 1-2 years experience. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet Level 2 (ages 8+)
This class is dedicated to Ballet basics including barre exercises, exercises in center, allegro and adagio. This class is for the beginner ballerina that has either never taken Ballet but is over age 9 or who is under age 10 and has only 1-2 years’ experience. All students in the 8+ age range are eligible for this class. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.
Ballet Level 1 (ages 6+)
This class is a beginner level class for new ballerinas in this age range. Students will learn Ballet fundamentals, vocabulary, musicality, perform barre and center exercises, and acquire core strength. This class does participate in the recital at the end of the year.

Ballet
Sarah began studying Ballet in the fall of 2015. She came to Dance Elite as a student in the summer of 2016. Under the tutelage of Ms. Marley, Sarah has blossomed into an amazing ballerina and competition dancer.

Monthly Tuition Classes
Classes offered on a monthly basis with varying prices depending on the number of classes per week. Tuition is due by the first of each month or your first class day of each month. A $25.00 returned check charge applies for any checks returned by the bank.
Classes for Ages 12+
Classes are designed to develop the sixth grade through adult student with coursework developing elementary through advanced skills in dance, choreography, vocabulary, and musicality with stylized execution of the dance genre. The class will develop technique, self-expression, strength, flexibility, and the complexity of combinations and level of performance.
Classes for Ages 8-11
Classes are designed to develop the third through fifth/sixth grade student with age-appropriate coursework developing elementary through intermediate skills in dance, choreography, vocabulary, musicality, and stylized execution of the dance genre. The classroom focus will be on technique, self-expression, and performance within a disciplined yet encouraging learning environment.
Classes for Ages 6-8
Classes are designed to develop the first through third grade student with age-appropriate coursework developing elementary through intermediate skills in dance, choreography, vocabulary and musicality with stylized execution of the dance genre. The classroom focus will be on technique, self-expression, and performance within the joy of a disciplined yet encouraging learning environment.
Preschool Classes
All preschool classes are designed to introduce age-appropriate coursework for the young dancer’s physical, emotional, and social skills. These classes develop the basic elements of creative movement as well as vocabulary and musicality. Primary objectives are geared toward inspiration, self-expression, creativity, imagination, and having fun!
Combo Classes for ages 4-5 – Boys
Comfortable clothes your dancer can move in well, such as shorts or athletic pants, fitted t-shirt, and black ballet shoes plus tap shoes for the tap combo and jazz shoes for the jazz combo. Ballet/Tumbling combo boys only need black ballet shoes as they will tumble bare-footed.
Hip Hop – Boys
Fitted T-shirts, shorts or sweat pants. Absolutely no jeans. Black Hip Hop sneakers or black tennis shoes are required.
Ballet – Boys
Black men’s tights, black ballet shoes, and a fitted black or white t-shirt in tank or regular style.
Lyrical/Contemporary and Acro – Boys
Fitted, stretchy clothing such as dance shorts or leggings, fitted top and nude lyrical shoes for Lyrical/Contemporary class. Acro class goes bare-footed.
Tap and Musical Theatre – Boys
Comfortable clothes you can move in and that are stretchy. No jeans. Black Tap shoes with socks for tap class and tan jazz shoes for Musical Theatre class.
Hip Hop
Modest dancewear such as any color leotards, tights, dance shorts or dance pants. Absolutely no jeans. Black Hip Hop sneakers or regular black sneakers are required. Sneakers that have both black uppers and soles are required for the recital.
Tap, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical/Contemporary, and Musical Theater
Modest dancewear such as any color leotards, tights, dance shorts or dance pants. Black tap shoes, lyrical shoes and tan jazz shoes are required in accordance with the class you are in. Street clothes and/or baggy clothes are NOT permitted. Acro requires a leotard or a top that does not come up when the dancer is up-side-down.
Ballet and Pointe
Black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes are required. T-shirts, skirts, and other cover-ups are not allowed. Fitted dance shorts may be worn during the week of menstruation. If wearing a bra that shows outside the leotard, it must be a black sports bra only. A sweater may be worn at the beginning of class to warm-up in during the cold winter months.
Combo Classes – Girls
Any color leotard with pink or suntan tights, leggings or shorts. Underwear is not necessary when tights are worn. Underwear is necessary when tights are not worn. Pink ballet shoes for ballet combos, black tap shoes for tap combos, and tan jazz shoes for jazz combos are required. All tumbling is done bare-footed.
