Ballet and ballroom

HEELS

Heels is a high energy action packed dance class done in high heels. Heels will incorporate genres of pop, jazz, musical theater, and hip hop. A dancer must have good technique, and this means ballet training, strength, and alignment are needed to support the heel. This class can be done with or without heels and men and women are invited to take. Age requirement is 12 yrs. and above.

ADVANCED HIP HOP

This class blends Hip Hop and Street Jazz Funk with a focus on self expression. While developing the dynamics of movement, choreography varies greatly from the hard-hitting techniques of hip hop to the freeing movements of street jazz.

INTERMEDIATE HIP HOP

This class combines hard hitting modern hip-hop with the silky groove of old school R&B to create dance combos that feel good on the body but still challenge the brain. As a lover of individuality and personal style, Matt encourages those who come to find their own soul within the choreography and have fun experimenting with the movement.

BEGINNING HIP HOP

A perfect class for anyone who wants to learn the basics of Hip Hop Dance. This class is ideal for the new dancer. You will learn isolations, groove, foot work and more! Class uses age appropriate music and moves.

PRE HIP HOP

This class is a fusion of creative movement and basic hip hop to get all the wiggles out. This dance class focuses on muscle development, coordination, and musicality through fun and creative ways! Class uses age appropriate music and moves.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop is not just a form of dance; it is a culture- a way of life. Hip Hop consists of four main elements: b-boying(breaking), dj-ing, graffiti art, and mc-ing(rapping). Hip Hop encompasses many different urban dance styles such as poppin’, locking, breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Our Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography without suggestive music or movements. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Our Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun. This is an excellent class for high-energy kids who want to take a fast and fun dance class.

JAZZ 4

This class introduces an advanced level of jazz movements and terminology. Students must have a solid dance foundation as this class moves at a very fast pace. Focus on style and technique, including longer and more difficult combinations requiring more control, incorporating bigger leaps (seconds, switch, scissor, etc.), more turns (triple pirouettes, a la seconde turns, etc.) and higher kicks. Each class will consist of a warm-up, across the floor, proper jazz technique, and combinations.

JAZZ 3

Class format consists of a warm-up to enhance core strengthening, balance, and extensions through isolations, rhythmic exercises, and floor stretches. Students study jazz technique, and learn to build complex combinations and routines. Class includes across the floor patterns and dance routines.

JAZZ 2

Designed for students as an extension of Beginning Jazz Dance. The class will be faster paced and will expect students to have an understanding of basic jazz dance. Individually created choreography will be introduced. We use fun, popular and age appropriate music.

JAZZ 1

Increasing technique that builds on intro jazz for more complex moves and intricate timing while working on performance quality.

INTRO JAZZ

For the dancer who has been in Creative Movement and/or wants to try the dance form of Jazz. Dancers will learn the basic steps of jazz dance with turns, kicks, and leap steps along with popular simple rhythm techniques and fun expression. We use fun, popular and age appropriate music.

JAZZ

One of the most popular and well known forms of dance. Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. In a Jazz class the dancers also learn many fun and trendy dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. It is a wonderful class to get a well rounded variety of all dance steps. Dancers will learn choreography to popular and age appropriate music of today along with vintage styles of jazz from the last decades. This is a perfect class to start your dance training.

Tap 4

This program is for the most advanced tap student, dealing with complicated rhythmic timing, sounds and a substantial knowledge of tap terminology. Another important accent is placed on improvement of the artistry by developing the ability to represent characters through tap dancing.

Tap 3

The program for this level further develops the tap dancers’ foot technique by adding complicated rhythmic patterns and more complex combinations. It also emphasizes on the specifics of the tap dancers’ upper body movements. The main goal of this level is increasing the speed and coordination of the learned technique.

Tap 2

The students in this level continue to develop their tap technique by enriching the vocabulary and improving the quality of the techniques already introduced. The beginning Tap II technique builds upon rhythms with more complicated, but repetitive sound elements that require the students to have a higher level of concentration and self-awareness.

Tap 1

This level introduces the students to fundamental tap techniques arranged in combinations. The students take an active part in the creation of combinations. They will learn how to perform with energy and how to bring their own personality to each and every performance. The main goals in Tap I beginners level are identifying, utilizing, and demonstrating tap terminology as well as understanding tap as a form of entertainment.

Intro to Tap

This is an excellent introduction to tap dancing. First time tap students will explore rhythms and sounds with their new tap shoes. They will be introduced to the basic elements of the tap movements. The main goals of the program are, following directions and building a basic tap dance vocabulary that will be used in the students own combinations.

ADVANCED LYRICAL

This class will work on advanced lyrical technique, emotion, timing and performance as well as working with multiple different styles.

INTERMEDIATE LYRICAL

This class is designed to work on the lyrical style incorporating appropriate levels of technique, emotion, and performance.

ADVANCED CONTEMPORARY

At this level, dancers will strive to connect body shapes, versatility, and improvisation through movement.

INTERMEDIATE CONTEMPORARY

At this level, dancers will start learning the basics of creating shapes and movement while focusing on core and floor work done barefooted.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements and shapes, stressing versatility and improvisation. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.

Ballet Variation

The studio becomes a stage in Variations class as students learn excerpts from classical and contemporary ballets. Included are variations from George Balanchine's ballets such as Serenade, Who Cares?, Raymonda Variations, Square Dance, Agon, Swan Lake, Apollo, and Stars and Stripes. Students are taught to transform technique into art.

Pointe 3/4

The Student must have advanced Pointe technique before entering this class with an emphasis on working through their pointe shoes. The student will learn how to move gracefully from movement to movement through their pointe shoes. The student must have teacher approval and must be in Ballet 4 before enrolling in Pointe 3/4.

Pointe 1/2

The student will continue their pointe progression in this class, focusing on more advanced pointe technique. The student must have teacher approval for this level and be in Ballet 3 before enrolling in Pointe 1/2.

Pre-Pointe

Beginning work for dancers who want to start pointe. General strengthening of feet, ankles and inner thighs. Dancer will advance to pointe shoes at the appropriate time. Dancers must be in Ballet 2 before enrolling in Pointe.

Ballet 4

The students at this level should have a higher understanding of vocabulary and positions. They should also show an understanding of proper body alignment, arm placement and head position. Also, the student at this level will dance more in center working on their ballet performance and fluidity.

Ballet 3

These students build on the strength of their prior ballet experience and continue to develop as confident and capable dancers. Combinations at the barre become more complex and complete, with emphasis on head and arm position as well as consistent turn-out of the legs. Dancers learn a variety of combinations at the barre, as well as in the center in allegro and adagio sections of the class. The student should consistently demonstrate an understanding of proper ballet technique and poise, as well as the self-control necessary to progress through the ballet program.

Ballet 2

This is the introductory level of the Intensive Ballet Program. A concentration on both technique, ballet vocabulary and the enjoyment of dancing are equally important at this first level. The students will learn how to achieve a correct ballet posture and how to feel comfortable executing ballet movements while keeping their correct ballet stance at all times. They will also work on their dance coordination and refine the transitions between the different ballet movements. The ballet barre combinations require a high level of concentration and good memory. In the center, the dancers will build strength and work on their coordination and musicality. The Center practice will have a clearly distinguished Center Barre, Adagio and Small Allegro parts.

Ballet 1

In this level, students reach beyond the fun into a more self-reflective and serious stage of development. Class structure and discipline are emphasized, with students adhering to a dress code and following proper ballet etiquette in the classroom. Students develop self-esteem by being challenged to dance the classical technique and feeling pride in a sense of accomplishment, with positive encouragement from their teacher. Students learn to dance for the first time with one hand on the barre and can demonstrate a variety of ballet movements independently. Other skills learned at this level are how to give and receive appropriate feedback from their peers, how to self-correct their own technique, and memorization of ballet combinations with correct musical timing.

Intro-Ballet

Introduction to the world of Ballet for our young dancers. In many cases this is the next step after combo classes. Young dancers can still be in combo classes while attending Pre-Ballet for detailed instructions. Pre-Ballet encourages more structure and focus.

Butterflies

Butterflies is our beginners program introducing students to dance movements, while still encouraging their creativity and imaginations through story-time and costume dances. We emphasize exploring the student’s natural passion for melody, rhythm and movement, as well as listening to the music. “Free dance” time is important to the students at this level, as it allows them to express themselves and show their love of movement. Students continue to work on following directions, cooperating with others, and will begin to develop spatial orientation and use basic counting skills. Students will dance with partners, play dance games, and memorize short dance combinations at this level. In this class, students reach beyond the fun of play into a more self-reflective and serious stage of development. Class structure and discipline are emphasized, with students adhering to a dress code and following proper ballet etiquette in the classroom. Students develop self-esteem by being challenged to dance the classical technique and feeling pride in a sense of accomplishment, with positive encouragement from their teacher.

Advanced Acro

Students should be able to demonstrate skills listed from Levels I-V, particularly the kickover. Students at this level will be assessed on the following skills at the end of the year: Front walkover, Back walkover, Front Handspring, Standing Back Handspring, Side aerial, Splits, Back Arabian, Dive Front walkover, Valdez, Back roll to Handstand.

Intermediate Acro

Students in this class should be able to demonstrate most skills listed for Tumbling IV, especially a backbend. Skills of focus include: Splits, Backbend to recovery, Handstand balance for 3 seconds, Bridge kickover, Headstand balance for 10 seconds, V-Sit hold for 40 seconds, Plank hold for 1 minute, Straddle press to Handstand, Round off, Dive cartwheel, Front or Back walkover, and aerial.

Beginning Acro

Students at this level should be able to demonstrate a cartwheel on both sides as well as a round off. Skills of focus include: Splits, Bridge with kicks (right and left), Backbend without a spot, Bridge kickover, Handstand to forward roll, One-handed cartwheel, Backward roll, V-sit for 30 seconds, Plank Hold for 40 seconds, Tuck headstand, Bridge with straight arms and legs, Dive roll, Front Limber, Flying cart wheel.

Pre Acro

Skills of focus include: Bridge, L handstand, Pre cartwheel, cartwheel (Right and Left), Pre-Round Off, Skipping, Forward pike roll, Bridge, V-Sit, Handstand away from the wall, Square Hip Split exercise, Tuck jumps, Rock and roll from standing to standing.

Acrobatics for Dancers

Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. We currently are offering 4 levels of Acro.

Children's Combo Class​​

This program is for our younger dancers ages 3-5. In this class they will learn the basics of Ballet & Tap and express themselves with creative movement.

Ballet​​/Pointe

We are currently using the ABT Ballet Program. We have 5 levels of Ballet, starting with Intro Ballet, Level 1,2,3,4. We also have pre pointe & pointe for our more experienced dancers.

Acro

This dance style combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements.
