Pas de Deux
All levels will have an opportunity to participate in pas de deux. The two men’s levels will rotate thru the ladies levels over course of the summer, to ensure developmentally appropriate instruction. Pas de deux classes are not offered at St. George or YDSI.
Pilates, Yoga, Conditioning, or Seminar
In addition, every level has a cross training class (such as Pilates, yoga, conditioning, or a seminar) each day. Within these instructional hours the program is tailored to the needs and developmental progress of each group.

Adult Classes are offered at the Ballet Centre and Trolley Corners campuses by instructors Tyler Gum and Elizabeth Weldon.

The Ballet West Academy Summer Intensive challenges dancers to improve their ballet technique and study other dance forms that complement classical ballet.

Student Division Levels 1 through 8 are designed for students ages 9 and above. Ballet West Academy promotes a healthy and nurturing approach. Ballet
Ballet West Academy’s Beginning & Elementary Divisions provide year-round classes at three campuses: Salt Lake City Trolley Corners, Park City, and Utah County. Classes are offered by age and are carefully developed in accordance with a child’s physical and cognitive abilities, setting the stage for future training.
2026 Video Auditions
Video auditions are accepted, but in person auditions are strongly preferred. Video auditions can be submitted from January 4, 2026 - March 31, 2026. Ballet West Academy and artÉmotion does not accept DVDs or video tapes. VIDEO AUDITIONS WILL OPEN JANUARY 4, 2026 All videos should include: Required | Introduction Introduction must include full name, age, birth date, where they are currently studying ballet, and the names of their teachers. Required | Barre (Men and Women) Plié, tendu, dégagé, ronde de jambe par terre, fondu, développé, frappé, and grand battement. Only one side needs to be included, for dancers applying for the Young Dancer Intensives. Required | Center (Men and Women) Dancers, ages 9-12: Adagio : Adagio combination with an emphasis on port de bras. Turns : Combinations that include turns - turns can be chaine turns, pique turns, or pirouettes. Petitie Allegro : Sauté in first, second, and changement in fifth. Grand Allegro : Include sauté in first arabesque, pas de chat and saute de chat. Dancers, ages 13-20: Adagio, pirouette en dehor and en dedan, petit allegro, and grand allegro. Required | Men-Specific Batterie and tour en l'air. Required | Women-Specific En pointe in center: Relevé, échappé, pirouette, and traveling turns. Female dancers, age 11 and older, that have begun pointe work may include exercises en pointe at barre or in centre. Pointe work is not required for the Young Dancer Intensive (especially for 9 and 10-year-old dancers). Please do not include pointe work if you have not already begun training en pointe with your current teacher. Optional | Ages 9-14, Men & Women A classical variation is optional to include. Curriculum Design Seminar
The Ballet West Curriculum Design Seminar empowers school directors and their faculty with tools to develop a custom tailored curriculum to meet the needs of their individual studio and incorporate research in best practices to nurture dancers and elevate training for all ages. The seminars prepare directors and faculty to create or refine their studio curriculum utilizing new tools and feedback.

On-site Visit and First Year Membership “Seminar and Consultation” Level Attendance Required Site visit of 2 days: 6 Classes - Days 1 and 2 3 Observation classes - in which BW observes faculty teaching and provides follow up feedback focused on instructors/curriculum/teaching methods 3 Master classes in which BW teaches a class and provides feedback on students. 2 group meetings - Day 2 1 meeting with faculty, incorporating feedback and answering questions 1 meeting with students and faculty - addressing areas of success and areas for improvement Term: One year following Site visit. Upon completing the essential requirements of training and successfully demonstrating appropriate skill level and maturity, students are ready for a more intense and challenging course of study. Female students at this level must show a structural capacity for pointe work and all students must possess ample strength and stamina. All of the classes in our comprehensive curriculum are designed to best provide the skills necessary to pursue a career in dance. We believe in a healthy and nurturing approach to the development of each student. As the level of difficulty increases, so does the passion for the pursuit for excellence. The focus during these formative years of training is on traditional classical ballet techniques as defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Students improve their understanding of proper ballet terminology and increase their awareness of anatomy, posture, and correct alignment. We begin to emphasize musicality, and further develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. Dancers should expect to spend about 2 years in the Elementary C levels. Students may be required to repeat this level and summer classes are strongly encouraged to stay on track for fall placement.

Elementary A is the bridge between a creative format and a more formal structure to ballet class. It is at this level that we begin the systematic approach to classical ballet training defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Basic ballet terminology and music awareness are introduced. Students continue to explore creative expression, refine motor skills, and gain strength and coordination, and will be introduced to nutritional “food for fuel” concepts. Children are encouraged to practice self-discipline, resulting in respect and safety for themselves and others.

Men's Class - 10-14 Year Old
Our Men’s Class is designed for male-identifying dancers to be immersed in men’s classical ballet technique and repertoire. Students will work weekly with former Ballet West Principal Dancer, Rex Tilton, to build the strength and agility necessary for the male ballet dancer. The second hour of class will be focused on repertoire, applying technical elements to choreography from some of the world’s most recognized ballets. Train with other male dancers in this special class created for students ages 10-14.

All students will perform in the Spring Performance.

Students at this level study 6 days per week in ballet curriculum and also in the additional dance genres necessary for their preparation for a professional dance career or entry into a college dance program. Additional benefits of these upper levels is mentoring from the Academy faculty to help students navigate their future in dance.

3-Week Intensive
Classes will be held Monday-Saturday with the staff of Ballet West Academy Faculty, Ballet West Artistic Staff (featuring Artistic Director, Adam Sklute), Ballet West dancers and renowned guest teachers. Saturdays will be abbreviated to guarantee students are getting proper rest on the weekends. The 3-Week Summer Intensive showing will be held at Westminster University on Friday, July 17, 2026.
Ballet Technique
Every level has the same number of instructional hours throughout the course of the program. Classes are offered 6 days a week, Monday thru Saturday. All levels have a two hour technique class, a one hour additional ballet class (such as pointe, men’s technique, pas de deux, variations, or repertoire) and a one hour class of a different dance genre (jazz, modern, contemporary, character, flamenco, Irish) each day.
Beginning B (Age 4-5)
Beginning B is a creative movement class with a ballet emphasis. Classes are designed to encourage students to explore the elements of dance with a focus on ballet in a fun and nurturing environment while setting the stage for future training.
Beginning C (Age 5-6)
Beginning C is an exciting introduction to classical ballet techniques. Boys and girls gain awareness of ballet basics through a creative process that allows each student to experience their passion for dance. Activities vary weekly and focus on developing fundamental motor skills, strength, rhythm, and coordination. In a creative setting, children learn self-expression, self-discipline, and respect for others.
Level 4 Ballet Technique

Musical Theatre - 7-12 Year Old
The Park City campus is excited to introduce Musical Theatre classes to its students! Classes are an introduction to the Musical Theatre craft, designed to support the participant’s creative expression, and to help them build confidence for the stage! Classes are offered in two sections and are by age. Ages 7 to 12 and ages 13 to 18. All students enrolled in classes will perform in the Spring Performance. They will also take part in an in studio performance in the first semester.

Elementary C is the introduction to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique building to advanced beginner skills. The focus during these formative years of training is on traditional classical ballet techniques as defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Students improve their understanding of proper ballet terminology and increase their awareness of anatomy, posture, and correct alignment. We begin to emphasize musicality, and further develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. Dancers should expect to spend about 2 years in the Elementary C levels. Students may be required to repeat this level and summer classes are strongly encouraged to stay on track for fall placement.

Choreographic Workshop
artÉmotion Artistic Directors, Allison DeBona and Rex Tilton direct a “Company Experience” for pre-professional dancers June 15-July 17, 2026. Dancers will spend the first three weeks as students in the Ballet West Summer Intensive, and spend the final two weeks with artÉmotion. Participants take part in a world premiere performance in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 16 & 17, 2026 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

Ballet West Academy Preview Day
Ballet West Academy's Preview Day is a unique opportunity for students to audition early in the season for Ballet West Academy Professional Training Division placement. The audition class will also offer placement for our 2026 Summer Intensives. This two-day event includes a pre-audition talk with esteemed Ballet West Academy Faculty, tours of our downtown Ballet Centre and Student Housing, observing current Professional Training Division classes, and two tickets to Ballet West's performance of Peter Pan.
Virtual Seminar and Consultation
8 hours of seminar time. Participants will gain tools to design or refine their own curriculum and syllabi. 2 hours of consultation time with Ballet West Curriculum specialist. Participants share their curriculum, to receive feedback and problem solve specific challenges within their studio. The 2 hours of consulting time is available in the 6 weeks following course completion.

The program provides rigorous training while balancing the developmental needs of younger students. Dancers participate in daily ballet technique classes, as well as a variety of supplemental classes for girls and boys; including pre-pointe/pointe, boys technique, other dance styles, and seminar classes relating to topics such as nutrition and growth mindset.
