About Aikido of Champlain Valley

Aikido of Champlain Valley, located in Burlington, Vermont, was established in 1997 by Benjamin Pincus Sensei. As a 501(c)(3) federal non-profit educational organization, we are dedicated to teaching traditional Aikido to adults, teens, and children, fostering a sustainable community and a more peaceful world through its practice. While not a traditional dance studio, our practice emphasizes the graceful, flowing movements inherent in Aikido training, focusing on leverage, blending with an opponent's energy, and developing physical artistry and resilience. Our curriculum incorporates "adult body arts and conditioning" classes structured with "Basics," "All Levels," and "Intermediate" options. We offer specialized "Weapons" training with traditional Japanese wooden swords and staffs, as well as Zazen meditation and intensive Uchi Deshi opportunities. For younger practitioners, "Children's Classes" are available for ages 7-12, with youth classes resuming in September. Families are encouraged to train together, with discounts available. Instructors include Chief Instructor Benjamin Pincus, Chris Farnham, Jason Pepe, and Emilie Inoue. We cultivate inner calm, confidence, and well-being, learning peaceful conflict resolution and bully prevention strategies. Prospective students can observe a class before joining. The dojo also provides "Open Mat" sessions for informal practice supervised by senior students, and occasional "Seminars" and "Intensive Programs" to deepen practice. With direct lineage to Aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba, and Shihan at Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan, we offer traditional martial arts instruction led by Vermont's senior instructors.
